BCCI clears Kochi IPL franchisee
December, Mumbai. At their meeting on Sunday, 5th December 2010, the IPL Governing Council confirmed that the Kochi Franchisee had satisfactorily responded to the notice issued to them by the BCCI, and decided that the Franchisee Kochi Cricket Pvt. Ltd., would play in the IPL from 2011 onwards.
Sreesanth, the only player from Kerala in Team India, has expressed his desire to play for the Kochi team.
“I would like to play for the Kochi team. However, I cannot say if I will be part of the team or not, as the process is through an auction,” he said while welcoming the BCCI’s decision to allow the team to participate in the fourth edition of IPL.”
“Playing for a home team anyway will give me more joy than anything else,” Sreesanth said.
The IPL GC met in Mumbai earlier today, to discuss matters related to the IPL Season 2011.It was decided that the Player Auction will take place on 8 and 9 January 2011 in Mumbai. The IPL season will start on 8 April 2011 and end on 22 May 2011. The Opening Ceremony will be held on 7 April 2011.
There will be a total of 60 matches, played by 8 teams. The Play-offs will be played in the following format, based on league standings:
The two semi-finals will be played between
Play off 1: Team 1 vs Team 2
Play off 2: Team 3 vs Team 4
Winner of Play-off 1 goes through to the finals.
Prelim Final: Loser of Play off 1 vs Winner of Play off 2
Grand Final: Winner of Play off 1 vs Winner of Prelim Final
