Healthcare a key sector for Indo-US Partnership: Anand Sharma

Mr. Anand Sharma, Minister Commerce and Industry stressed on the fact that India and US are globalleaders in medicine and pharmaceutical sector and the two countries can significantly gain by co-operating with each other in this sector. Mr. Sharma said while the US is the global leader in pharmaceutical research and development sector, Indian pharmaceutical companies have gained the reputation of providing low-cost manufacturing. The partnership between the two countries can create a lot of value for global pharmaceutical production and increase access to medicines across the world by driving the cost of production.

Mr. Sharma also emphasized that the Indo-US bilateral relationship is being driven by private sector stakeholders and informed that President Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have accepted all the recommendations of the India – US CEO’s Forum and have agreed to give even greater support to the private sector dialogue between the two countries. This reflects the importance that the Governments of the two countries have accorded to the private sector in driving forward the Indo-US bilateral relationship, said Mr. Sharma.
