{"id":477,"date":"2010-11-24T08:43:15","date_gmt":"2010-11-24T08:43:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/?p=477"},"modified":"2010-11-24T08:43:15","modified_gmt":"2010-11-24T08:43:15","slug":"funding-approved-for-key-part-of-waikato-expressway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/?p=477","title":{"rendered":"Funding approved for key part of Waikato Expressway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/NZ-SH1_map.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-479\" title=\"NZ-SH1_map\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/NZ-SH1_map-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"178\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/NZ-SH1_map-150x150.png 150w, http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/NZ-SH1_map-50x50.png 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/a>The approval of funds to build the Ngaruawahia section of the Waikato  Expressway is an important step towards completing the Road of National  Significance, says Transport Minister Steven Joyce.<\/p>\n<p>The NZ Transport Agency Board has confirmed the $169 million required to fund the Ngaruawahia section.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Joyce says construction of the 10 kilometre section will create up to 300 local jobs directly, with many more downstream.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Construction will get underway later next year, meaning three  sections of the Waikato Expressway will be underway next year &#8211; Te Rapa,  Rangiriri and Ngaruawahia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Joyce says the Waikato Expressway is a priority for investment because of the economic and safety benefits it will bring.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/waikato-expressway-mercer-longswamp-img3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-481\" title=\"waikato-expressway-mercer-longswamp-img3\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/waikato-expressway-mercer-longswamp-img3-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/waikato-expressway-mercer-longswamp-img3-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/waikato-expressway-mercer-longswamp-img3-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a> &#8220;When complete, this section of SH1 will reduce traffic congestion and improve safety within Taupiri and Ngaruawahia.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Pre-election National committed to having the Waikato Expressway  completed within ten years of National taking office.\u00a0 It remains a big  challenge we&#8217;re committed to this goal in government and we&#8217;re a further  step closer today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The funding confirmed today is an important step towards getting the  Expressway designed and built so that these benefits can be realised.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/waikato-expressway-mercer-longswamp-img3.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Government is committed to lifting productivity, creating jobs  and helping get our goods to market faster.
