{"id":333,"date":"2010-11-10T04:05:22","date_gmt":"2010-11-10T04:05:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/?p=333"},"modified":"2010-12-07T03:01:53","modified_gmt":"2010-12-07T03:01:53","slug":"obama-u-s-has-stake-in-indonesia%e2%80%99s-prosperity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/theasiantimes.com\/?p=333","title":{"rendered":"Obama : U.S. Has Stake in Indonesia\u2019s Prosperity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Barack Obama said the U.S. has a stake in Indonesia\u2019s continued growth.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech to an audience of about 6,000 people  at the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, Obama said Indonesia\u2019s  \u201cextraordinary democratic transformation\u201d and its religious tolerance  stand as examples to other emerging economies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerica has a stake in an Indonesia that is  growing, with prosperity that is broadly shared among the Indonesian  people,\u201d Obama said in the text of his address, \u201cbecause a rising middle  class here means new markets for our goods, just as America is a market  for yours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president lived in Jakarta from 1967  to 1971. He greeted the audience with remarks in Bahasa Indonesia, drawing  cheers. \u201cLet me begin with a simple statement: Indonesia is part of  me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Obama arrived in Indonesia yesterday, the second  stop on a four-country tour of Asia that has focused primarily on  expanding trade in the region and boosting U.S. exports to create jobs  at home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Barack Obama said the U.S. has a stake in Indonesia\u2019s continued growth.
